For those customers who have been with us since the start, it will be hard to believe where the years have gone. The company was established in 1997 by Ken Drake, Rod Lovatt and Mike Quinn with Mandy Greaves and Mark Lockley joining shortly after. The business has grown in a measured way every year since then and now has 30 staff.

Initially the company only sold the Zero International range of thresholds, frame seals and dropseals but the range has expanded over the years to include most hardware that is fitted to doors. The ZEROplus range now includes vision frames, louvres, finger protection, door stays, flush bolts and a lot more besides.

“I would like to thank all the customers who have been loyal to us over the years and in most instances, grown their businesses in line with ours”, said Ken Drake.

Ken is still MD and Caleb Kent who recently joined us was born in the year the business started!

Anti-Jemmy Strips From Zero

Product News on July 12th, 2016 Comments Off on Anti-Jemmy Strips From Zero

new-banner-secustripZero is pleased to announce it is now stocking Secustrip anti-jemmy strips. “We are very excited about the Secustrip product. It features two interlocking steel profiles which are fitted to the outside of the door and the side of the door frame, and fit together when the door is closed, protecting the gap between the door and frame against intrusion” said Sales Director Mark Lockley. “They are ingeniously designed to make forced entry by jemmy, crowbar or screw driver more difficult at the leading edge of the door where the lock is fitted.”

This proven product is available from Stafford stock in two designs; Type 2 for inward opening doors and Type 3 for outward opening doors. They can be cut to size on site to suit the door height.

The strips are made from zinc plated mild steel and are epoxy powder coated white (RAL9010) or brown (RAL8014). They can be used on new build or retrofit projects and are ideal for use on doors where security has already been compromised and a damaged door edge needs to be concealed.

Zero has also undergone successful independent testing to their Z003R concealed manual flush bolt to performance standard BS EN 12051:1999. Zero had noticed BS EN 12051 being called for more often in specifications in recent times, so thought it was time that their flag ship flush bolt is tested to this standard.

Testing to BS EN12051 covers important performance characteristics such as cycles, usage, corrosion resistance and security. After successful testing by Exova Warringtonfire the Z003R received a full classification of 3 3 – 0 1 3 2 to BS EN 12051: 1999.

The Z003R is manufactured to ANSI standards (American National Standards Institute) which means fixing positions do not vary and they can be fitted to pre-prepped metal doors. It has a 265mm adjustable rod and is supplied as standard in a satin chrome finish.

The Z003R has also been included in a successful 4 hour fire test to BS476: Part 22: 1987.

UL Door Bottom Assessment

new-banner-dropseals

Zero Seal Systems Ltd have just had their full automatic dropseal range positively assessed by UL International (UK) for use on previously tested steel based door assemblies to EN1634-1: 2014.

When fitted with one of the Zero dropseals mentioned below, steel door assemblies would be expected to achieve a fire resistance performance of up to 180 minutes integrity.

This new assessment covers the whole range, namely 320A, 321AA, 323A, 350A, 351AA, 352AA, 354A, 355A, 360A, 361AA, 364A, 364FSA, 365AA, 365FSAA, 367AA, 368AA and 369A. These models include patterns which are light, medium and heavy duty and also patterns which can be morticed, semi-morticed and surface mounted.

Most Zero dropseals (or automatic threshold seals) are adjustable to 25mm. They work on a hinge-side plunger with a flat spring mechanism, so there are no electrics to deal with. The system drops a neoprene gasket in a scissor-like motion to form a tight seal with no drag – even on an uneven floor. The seal retracts automatically when the door opens.

Sales Director Mark Lockley believes this just further strengthens Zero’s position as a market leading door hardware supplier “One of the major benefits of a steel door is the increased fire resistance they offer over say a timber door, well now Zero dropseals can be specified with confidence for fire resisting steel door assemblies. Having our whole range assessed for a duration of three hours to EN1634.1 is, we believe, ahead of the competition”.

Company News on August 11th, 2015 Comments Off on CORNI MINISTAR now has Grade 4 Corrosion Resistance

The CORNI Ministar and Minipad ranges have now successfully completed the very high resistance 240 hours salt spray test. This means the sixth digit of their CE marking changes from Grade 3 (96 hours) to Grade 4 (240 hours). Both products are supplied with stainless steel side latches and Pullman latches as standard.

New Certificates of Conformity and Declarations of Performance are available on our website.

The CORNI MINISTAR 429 range was introduced by Zero in 2014 to replace the MAB EXIT 1000 range. It has the same functions and a very similar appearance but with many design improvements. This tried and tested product still uses the same modular approach to components as the MAB EXIT 1000 Series but Pullman latch bolts are now made from stainless steel and the rods come with steel covers as standard.

The CORNI MINISTAR 429 is fully tested to the European standard EN 1125: 2008 on panic exit devices, is CE marked, and is suitable for use on fire rated doors.

Zero Increases Storage

Company News on May 28th, 2015 Comments Off on Zero Increases Storage

Zero Seal Systems Ltd has recently completed a phase of increasing the mezzanine storage area in it’s warehouse. With the increasing demand to meet customers’ delivery requirements, extra storage for stock was required.

Gavin Hogan commented “We are working in an increasing next day delivery industry, which obviously means we need sufficient stocks of the ZEROplus range to meet this. We have had the mezzanine in the warehouse since we moved back in 2011, but decided that it should be extended across the warehouse to give us that much needed extra storage. This now really gives us the confidence that we will continue to meet our customers’ demands in the future, as we would like to think we have always done in the past”.

Service is very important to Zero, so the new extra storage space will enable them to uphold their excellent reputation.

Fire Rated Fusible Link Louvres Now Suit Timber Doors

Product News on September 4th, 2014 Comments Off on Fire Rated Fusible Link Louvres Now Suit Timber Doors

Zero has undertaken successful fire testing on timber doors with the FLDL-UL fusible link louvre in conjunction with an intumescent aperture liner. This intumescent has been specifically formulated for use with this louvre on timber fire doors and protects the door from burning through; it is not required on steel fire doors.

The AL134PSA liner is 44mm wide and has been included in a successful 30 minute fire test on a 44mm thick timber door, while AL218PSA is 54mm wide and has been included in a successful 60 minute fire test on a 54mm thick timber door, both to BS EN 1634-1: 2008. BM TRADA Report CHILT/RF13260 refers, copy of test report available on request.

The FLDL-UL has been used on steel fire doors for many years, but it can now be used on timber fire doors. It is a self-attaching steel louvre (i.e. no holes need to be drilled in the door) with concealed fixings one side. In normal operation the blades can be opened and shut manually by means of a finger pull. In the event of fire, it has a fusible link which parts at 74⁰C and allows the stainless steel mechanism to snap the louvre blades shut, thus preventing the spread of flames. The standard finish is galvanised steel grey primed ready for powder coating but it is also available Grades 304 and 316 stainless steel. Expandable models are available to suit different door thicknesses.

Please contact us if you require any further information on these products.
