Sales director Mark Lockley comments, “We have always looked to support local charities when making our annual charitable donations, and for the last few years one of those has been Katharine House Hospice. Katharine House Hospice is such a special charity, as i’m sure you can imagine, and they have to rely on donations for a staggering 75% of their funding”.
“We recently decided that we want to give more to charity as a business , so for 2019 we have chosen to become a member of the Katharine House Hospice ‘Business Buddies’ scheme. This means that throughout the year we will be undertaking various fund-raising tasks to enable us to make regular donations. We have already seen staff donations in lieu of Christmas cards, and an Easter egg raffle to get us well on our way to our target!”
We will be posting regular fundraising updates on our social media channels. So keep a look out.
We would like to give you notice of our closing dates. We will be closing for the Easter holiday period at 5pm on Thursday 18 April, and will re-open for business at 8:30am on Tuesday 23 April.
Any orders placed before 3pm on Thursday 18 April will be despatched for delivery on Tuesday 23 April.
Our contact form will still be available during these closing days. All inquiries will be responded to when we re-open.

Ken Drake, one of the original founders of Zero Seal Systems, has retired. Starting Zero back in 1997, Ken had already amassed over 16 years in the door hardware industry.
Starting out at Alfred G. Roberts (Exports) Ltd in 1981, Ken remained with Laidlaw Thomson until 1997 working in London, Hong Kong, Bristol, Mitcham, Rochester, Cheadle and Willenhall.
MD Mandy Greaves commented “Ken’s drive, passion and enthusiasm have been truly remarkable over the last 21 years, and he has obviously been instrumental in the success of the business. He will be sorely missed by all his colleagues here at Zero, and we hope you join us in wishing Ken and his wife Helen many years of happy retirement, and travelling!”
After 21 years with the company, Ken Drake is standing down as Managing Director at Zero Seal Systems and will be retiring in the autumn.
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Mandy Greaves as Managing Director from 1st July. Mandy has been with the company for over 20 years, the last 10 of which have been as Commercial Director.
We are also pleased to welcome Nicola Hewitt as Financial Controller at this time of exciting change within the company.
We at Zero Seal Systems are delighted to announce we have recently achieved ISO 9001:2015. The 2015 revision of ISO 9001 is less prescriptive than its predecessor, focusing instead on performance. This was achieved by combining the process approach with risk-based thinking, and employing the Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle at all levels in the organisation.
ISO 9001 is the world’s most recognised quality management standard and helps us manage quality across all our operations by means of a Quality Management System (QMS).
Jim Craik, Zero’s QMS manager, says “ISO 9001 has been a huge benefit to our business since we originally achieved accreditation back in February 2015, both internally by assisting our existing systems and externally by providing a managed QMS system our customers can see. We were really keen to meet the requirements of the 2015 revision as we believe the new risk based thinking approach will further enhance our all-round service levels”.
Although it wasn’t required for us to achieve the 2015 version of ISO 9001 until September 2018, we have been working on achieving this revision for the last year to be able to achieve it as early as possible. If you require further information regarding our ISO 9001 QMS policy, please give Jim a call on 01785 282910 or via our contact form.
Zero is celebrating its 20 year anniversary this year. For those customers who have been with us since the start, it will be hard to believe where the years have gone. The company was established in 1997 by Ken Drake, Rod Lovatt and Mike Quinn with Mandy Greaves and Mark Lockley joining shortly after. The business has grown in a measured way every year since then and now has 30 staff.
Initially the company only sold the Zero International range of thresholds, frame seals and dropseals but the range has expanded over the years to include most hardware that is fitted to doors. The ZEROplus range now includes vision frames, louvres, finger protection, door stays, flush bolts and a lot more besides.
“I would like to thank all the customers who have been loyal to us over the years and in most instances, grown their businesses in line with ours”, said Ken Drake.
Ken is still MD and Caleb Kent who recently joined us was born in the year the business started!
We are delighted to announce that we recently entered our 100,000th order on our Sage computer system. Regular customers will have noticed the number on our sales acknowledgements heading towards the six figure mark in recent months, well now we are there!
To celebrate this milestone we recently announced via our email newsletter that the lucky customer who placed our 100,000th order with us would receive a Staffordshire hamper with our compliments. Delivery has already been arranged!
We want to say thank you to all our customers over the years for all your business since our very first order on 23 October 1997 for three Zero automatic door bottoms. Thank you!

The CORNI Ministar and Minipad ranges have now successfully completed the very high resistance 240 hours salt spray test. This means the sixth digit of their CE marking changes from Grade 3 (96 hours) to Grade 4 (240 hours). Both products are supplied with stainless steel side latches and Pullman latches as standard.
New Certificates of Conformity and Declarations of Performance are available on our website.
The CORNI Ministar 429 range was introduced by Zero in 2014 to replace the MAB EXIT 1000 range. It has the same functions and a very similar appearance but with many design improvements. This tried and tested product still uses the same modular approach to components as the MAB EXIT 1000 Series but Pullman latch bolts are now made from stainless steel and the rods come with steel covers as standard.
The CORNI Ministar 429 is fully tested to the European standard EN 1125: 2008 on panic exit devices, is CE marked, and is suitable for use on fire rated doors.
