Retirement is often bittersweet: a happy occasion for the retiree, but tinged with sadness for their colleagues. Zero waved goodbye to Martyn Greves on 20 November 2011. At a party organised by his colleagues to mark the occasion, Martyn reminisced about his years in the business...
48 YEARS IN THE INDUSTRYWay back in 1963, Martyn joined Parker Winder & Achurch in Birmingham as a management trainee, and passed his GAI diploma in 1967. Ten years later he moved on, to KS Neale in Erdington as an estimator, where he rose through the ranks to become general manager. After the acquisition by Laidlaw Thomson in the late 80s, he made the move to Bristol; but the Midlands called him back, and he later moved to Thomas Laidlaw Midlands in Willenhall, staying with them for 24 years in total.
ZERO TO RETIREMENTMartyn joined Zero in 2002 and has been a key part of the business's development for the last nine years. “It will be impossible to replace Martyn,” said MD Ken Drake. “His industry knowledge is immense after 48 years. He will be a hard act to follow." “Squire”, as he is fondly known by Zero staff, was last spotted heading in the direction of his allotment carrying gardening books, plants and implements... Splendid plans for a retirement!

Zero Seal Systems Ltd has recently moved into spacious new premises at 43-45 Ladford Covert. Because of very limited office space, Zero had been searching for solutions for some time. When a unit with more office space became available on the same industrial estate, it seemed ideal! Sales director Mark Lockley said: “We had been rather squashed in the office for a while but had put moving on hold due to the situation with the economy. However, an ideal unit became available within a few hundred yards of where we were - so because of the minimal moving costs, we decided to relocate. This now gives us room to expand in both the warehouse and office areas and puts the company in a good position for the future.” Zero now operates from units 43-45 Ladford Covert, but all phone and fax numbers remain unchanged.

Zero Seal Systems Ltd wish to announce the retirement of Mike Quinn. Mike set up Zero with Ken Drake back in 1997 and the company has since gone from strength to strength. Mike’s ironmongery career spans nearly 5 decades back to 1962 and most of his time previous to Zero was spent with Josiah Parkes & Sons Ltd in Willenhall and Thomas Laidlaw Midlands Ltd. During his career he has taken up many roles including; draughtsman, sales representative, national sales manager, national accounts manager and of course sales director with Zero. Mike is, and has always been, a well-liked and respected figure in the industry and his hard work and enthusiasm will be known by many. He will be sorely missed by all his colleagues at Zero and we hope you join us in wishing Mike and his wife Dorothy many years of happy retirement, most of which we are sure will be spent at his home in Florida!

Sales Director, Mark Lockley commented “We have wanted to do this for a while; the old web site was very out of date regarding our products and was not the most customer friendly. Our new website is everything we wanted it to be; faster, cleaner and more importantly bang up to date with our product range. It has many new features such as a search box, downloadable catalogue and contact us sheet. We are really pleased with it and hope our customers will be too”.
