With many of our products being fitted to both the external and internal faces of outward opening doors, we are often asked for information regarding a products resistance to the elements, and in particular, corrosion. Test data relating to corrosion resistance may already be available for some of the specialist door hardware we distribute, especially the CE marked items, but for a lot of products it’s not. Although not an essential characteristic for most items, we at Zero like to have the answer! Therefore, across a wide range of products, we have carried out some independent Corrosion Resistance testing to BS EN 1670:2007 at a UKAS accredited laboratory. BS EN 1670:2007 specifies the requirements for the corrosion resistance of building hardware for doors, windows, shutters and curtain walling. It provides a method of classification of corrosion resistance of building hardware based on its performance in a neutral salt spray test. BS EN 1670:2007 is the standard used for corrosion resistance testing in many harmonised European door hardware standards such as BS EN 1125 and BS EN 12209 for instance. Briefly, testing involves placing products in a chamber ready to be sprayed with a salt water solution for a set number of hours. We decided to test for Grade 4 corrosion resistance, which is a 240 hour duration test, and classified as Very High Corrosion Resistance. We opted for Grade 4 as it is rarely tested to for door hardware with Grade 3 (96 hours) seeming to be the norm. We are pleased to advise that the following products were successfully tested to Grade 4; Outside Access Devices for panic & emergency exit hardware, surface mounted Door Stays, Door Stops, Lever Handles, Escutcheons, Pull Handles, Cylinder Pulls, Door Viewers, Gate Fittings, Vision Frames both square and circular, Door Louvres, Door Loops both surface mounted and concealed, Flush Bolts, Thresholds, Automatic Door Bottoms, Frame Seals, Rain Deflectors, Brush Strips, Door Selectors and Finger Protection. We believe having such a broad scope of products tested to Grade 4 will enable them to be specified and used with confidence in general external situations. Please contact us for details on exact products tested, and equally a full test report is available on request.

We at Zero Seal Systems are delighted to announce we have recently achieved ISO 9001:2015. The 2015 revision of ISO 9001 is less prescriptive than its predecessor, focusing instead on performance. This was achieved by combining the process approach with risk-based thinking, and employing the Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle at all levels in the organisation. ISO 9001 is the world’s most recognised quality management standard and helps us manage quality across all our operations by means of a Quality Management System (QMS). Jim Craik, Zero’s QMS manager, says “ISO 9001 has been a huge benefit to our business since we originally achieved accreditation back in February 2015, both internally by assisting our existing systems and externally by providing a managed QMS system our customers can see. We were really keen to meet the requirements of the 2015 revision as we believe the new risk based thinking approach will further enhance our all-round service levels”. Although it wasn’t required for us to achieve the 2015 version of ISO 9001 until September 2018, we have been working on achieving this revision for the last year to be able to achieve it as early as possible. If you require further information regarding our ISO 9001 QMS policy, please give Jim a call on 01785 282910.

The LoPro is a pre-fabricated metal vision frame for steel & timber doors. It is easy to install and provides a low profile, ‘flush to the door look’. The LoPro uses 44mm sheet metal screws that pass through the door cut-out and fasten to the opposite side of the vision frame, thus eliminating the need to drill the door for through bolts and saving installation time and labour. It also leaves the corridor side of the frame free of fasteners for added security and a cleaner, more aesthetic appearance. The LoPro is suitable for use on fire rated doors, when used in conjunction with appropriate glass and glazing tape, also available. They are available in steel and stainless steel and also to suit various thicknesses of door and glass. Visit the product pages for more details.

Sometimes there are doors with an extreme opening gap, which the standard Finprotect Plus strips cannot cover. Not being satisfied with this, Elton who manufactures the Finprotect Plus has developed a special linking piece. The new Linking Channel couples two standard Finprotect Plus strips together creating a larger Finprotect Plus strip that is able to cover these extreme gaps. The new Finprotect Plus linking channel is produced from aluminium, works with all three profiles; FP50, FP90 & FP120, requires no fixings and is available 2500mm long which can be cut down on site. The Finprotect Plus linking channel is not only easy to install, but also easily removed in order to adjust, lubricate etc. the door hinges. Another benefit is that because the linking channel fits on the inside of the Finprotect Plus strips, it makes it invisible. This prevents children from removing the linking channel off the strips. Furthermore, it looks better since the two separate Finprotect Plus strips look like one large strip.

All these fittings are manufactured from Grade 316 stainless steel and are supplied in brushed finish. On the Continent they are used on houses and buildings in coastal locations. Please contact us for other similar products and different sizes. Please note that fixings are not supplied with these products.
In recently undertaken independent laboratory Anti-Slip testing, our Modular Thresholds, 6.4mm Low Flat Thresholds and Traction Tread™ Thresholds achieved a ‘low risk’ classification too BS 7976-2. We are pleased to report that every Zero threshold tested received a 'low risk' (lowest possible) classification (36+ PTV) in dry conditions, with the majority of those thresholds tested also receiving this classification in wet conditions. Test evidence in regards to the slip rating of thresholds is regularly asked for in public transport applications. Testing covered Zero’s wide range of Modular Thresholds, 6.4mm Low Flat Thresholds and their Traction Tread™ Thresholds which have various infill’s to aid grip. A copy of the test report is available upon request.

We stock a wide range of flush bolts including fire rated & non-fire rated, manual & automatic, and for both metal & timber doors. The Z003R manual extension flush bolt has been included in a successful 4 hour fire test on a steel door to BS476: Part 22: 1987. It is also ANSI standard (American National Standards Institute) meaning the fixing holes are always in the same pre-determined place which is ideal for pre-prepped doors. Our Z001 manual non-fire rated extension flush bolt can be supplied with either steel or nylon tipped rods and a flat or radius face. The Z001 is manufactured from Mazak zinc alloy. We also offer two types of automatic flush bolt, the Z004 for metal doors and the Z005 for timber doors. These come as two bolt sets and automatically engage when the door is closed, and retract when the door is opened. They do not require any power or electricity and are, as the Z003R, ANSI standard. Visit the product pages for more details.
