We write to bring to your attention a very recent development with some of the test evidence relating to our FBLS fire block louvre system, for steel fire door applications.
The main evidence we use for our FBLS in steel fire doors is original assessment report C129754 to BS 476: Part 22: 1987. This report assesses all sizes of the system up to 457x1524mm (width x height) and for a duration of up to 240 minutes (integrity only). This report was up for review recently, and although it has been reviewed & revalidated on several occasions previously, unfortunately we have now been advised by Warringtonfire that they cannot produce a new revalidation and therefore we have to re-test.
We obviously asked for an explanation behind this decision and we were advised that assessments are conducted in line with the PFPF guidelines, this document is currently being updated/amended in light of recent events, with a general tightening up of the requirement when conducting assessments. The PFPF guide states that assessments shall be based on test reports, the assessment in question (C129754) does not actually use any test data, rather it is evaluation on expected performance. Therefore, in the current climate we must have some base test data on the louvre system to be able to assess the range of products currently included within C129754.
Unfortunately, until we re-test we are left in no position but to withdraw from sale with immediate effect any FBLS over a size of 610x610mm (area equivalent) and over a duration of 120 minutes, for steel fire door applications. This actually only withdraws 4 current stock sizes; 254x1524mm, 305x1524mm, 457x914mm and 457x1524mm (all width x height).
You may be wondering why we are not totally withdrawing the product from sale; this is because we do have assessment report number WF170066 to BS EN 1634-1: 2000, which is still validated and covers any size up to 610x610mm, and for a duration up to 120 minutes (integrity only), providing they are mounted below 1 metre from the threshold.
If you have actually carried out your own independent testing of our FBLS louvre system in your door, then this notice does not apply to you.
We are planning to carry out a test during the coming months with Warringtonfire to hopefully allow us to put the larger sizes back on sale. We will obviously keep you fully informed.
This is totally out of our control as we are sure you appreciate, but we are addressing it as our top priority. If you require any further clarification, please feel free to contact us.
