fire door safety week

Fire Door Safety Week is almost here. Run by the British Woodworking federation, Fire Door Safety Week was launched in 2013 to raise awareness of fire door neglect and the vital role that fire doors play in fire safety.

During Fire Door Safety Week, which runs this year from the 23rd to the 27th of September, the British Woodworking Federation offer a series of informative webinars, which are free to attend and open to everyone. This year’s webinars include, ‘Common Issues Surrounding Fire Doors’ and ‘Fire Doors – a Fire Service Perspective’. They also offer a free online CPD-certified course, ‘An Introduction to Fire Doors’.

Fire Door Safety Week’s Purpose

The annual campaign hopes to raise awareness of the essential role of fire doors and educate people about the importance of correct specification, installation, operation, and inspection. Covering product manufacture, installation and maintenance and quality, the campaign asserts that everyone plays a part in ensuring fire doors are correct, maintained, and effective.

Did you know the Fire & Rescue Services attended a whopping 138, 977 fires in the year ending March 2024? And a sizeable 45% of all total fires were primary fires?

Primary fires are considered the most serious of fires with a threat to life and property, so it’s vital to protect your occupants and building as much as possible.

Fire doors must never be propped open, always be properly maintained, and be fitted with quality, fire-rated door hardware.
